Worship

at Mason First Presbyterian Church

We are pleased to be able to offer several different worship services on a regular basis:

We worship at 10:00 a.m. every Sunday morning in a service that typically includes scripture, the preaching of the Word of God, prayers, hymns, and music provided regularly by our Sanctuary Choir and periodically by our Youth Choir, Good News Singers, Cherub Choir, Youth and Senior Bell Choirs, or Elementary Hand Chimes Choir. The service is followed by a fellowship hour and by educational opportunities for all ages.

We have had a history of offering worship services featuring music from our contemporary praise team. Those services are temporarily on hold while the Contemporary Worship Task Force puts energy into their work, as we seek to discern how God is calling us to offer services like these again in the future. Please check back soon for an update.

Meditative Prayer Service

We worship at 12:00 noon every Wednesday in a 20-minute service that typically includes scripture, prayer, quiet time for meditation accompanied by contemplative music, a musical version of one of the psalms, and a musical version of the Lord’s Prayer. The service is held in the downstairs chapel and is followed by a soup lunch.

Service for Wholeness

We worship at 7:00 p.m on the third Tuesday of every month for a service of wholeness, a time in which we offer prayers for those in need of physical, emotional, or spiritual healing. Healing was an integral part of the ministry of Jesus which the church has been called to continue as one dimension of its concern for the wholeness of people. The service is held in the downstairs chapel.

We observe the following days and seasons throughout the year:
  • Advent, a season to recollect the hope of the coming of Christ, and to look forward to the Lord’s coming again;
  • Christmas, a celebration of the birth of Christ, with two services on Christmas Eve;
  • Epiphany, a day for commemorating God’s self-manifestation to all people;
  • Lent, a season of spiritual discipline and preparation, beginning with Ash Wednesday, anticipating the celebration of the death and resurrection of Christ;
  • Holy Week, a time of remembrance and proclamation of the atoning suffering and death of Jesus Christ;
  • Easter, the day of the Lord’s resurrection and the season of rejoicing which commemorates his ministry until his Ascension; and
  • The Day of Pentecost, the celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church.

We observe other days such as Baptism of the Lord, Transfiguration of the Lord, Trinity Sunday, All Saints Day, and Christ the King.

We also participate in the ecumenical Good Friday service sponsored annually by the Mason Ministerial Association, and we worship on the Ingham County Courthouse Lawn with Mason First United Methodist Church on the Sunday closest to July 4.

The sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are celebrated regularly throughout the year.

People from all walks of life are welcome at any of our worship services.
