Getting To Know Sheren Wright

By: Margaret Doolittle

Picture
Our office manager, Sheren Wright, has served in the position since May of 2006. In that short time she has turned our church office into a model of efficiency and created a place where we all feel welcome. Pastor Bill says that "Sheren is a delight to have in the office. She is organized, efficient, kind, humorous, good-spirited, incredibly diligent, and a tremendous asset both to me and to the church as a whole. If there are people out there who appreciate what I’m trying to do here, please say a huge ‘thank you’ to Sheren, because she does a ton of behind-the-scenes work that helps to make it happen.”

Sheren says that the best thing about her 30-hour-a-week job (plus a few hours working on church matters at home!) is the opportunity she has a chance to build relationships with the members of the congregation and others who phone or visit the church office each day. She also enjoys the financial aspect of her work – helping to count each Sunday’s offering, writing checks, and preparing financial reports. All of us have noticed the many improvements and innovations she has brought to the monthly Parish Pages. Preparing that document as well as the annual report and the weekly bulletin are also some of Sheren’s favorite assignments.

Sheren graduated from Mason High School and then attended CMU, before marrying Don Wright, also an MHS graduate, in 1966. The Wrights lived in Kentucky and Texas for two years while Don completed his Army service. After they returned to the Mason area, Sheren enjoyed her role as a stay-at-home mom to the Wrights’ four children – Chris, Matt, Melissa and Josh. In 1991 she began to work part time at the Mason Police Department, followed by fourteen years at the Mason Area Chamber of Commerce as an administrative assistant. Don, a salesman, died from the complications of Alzheimers, in 2003.

Did you know... that the unusual spelling of Sheren’s first name derives from her maternal grandfather, Glenn Sheren who invented the automobile seat belt?... that she grew up in our church, was received into membership in the eighth grade, and that Rev. Phil Hirtzel performed the Wrights’ wedding ceremony?...that she won the state 4-H public speaking championship in 1962?... that her parents, Lennie and Elaine Carter, have been members of Mason Presbyterian for more than 55 years?... that Sheren has four grandchildren, ranging in age from three to fifteen?... that her children, grandchildren, two younger siblings, and parents all live in the Mason area?... that her other favorite leisure activities include working word logic problems, reading, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, and watching some sports contests on TV?... and... that, luckily for all of us, Sheren looks forward to each and every work day at the Mason Presbyterian Church?
