Spiritual Growth for Adults

at Mason First Presbyterian Church

The Christian journey is a lifelong journey of spiritual growth.  We seek to provide an array of options to help people grow in their walk of faith, and we seek to encourage all Christians to take their spiritual journey seriously by participating in opportunities for education and spiritual enrichment.  Currently, we have six educational opportunities available for adults:

Adult Special Topics Forum
A weekly forum that meets weekly to learn about topics of special interest.  Recent forums have focused on such topics as "The Unseen Poor in Mason," "Living in Grace," "Christian Responsibility for the Poor," and a three-part overview of 2000 years' worth of church history.  Check the current Christian Education schedule on the Congregation Resources page for the most current information.  The forum meets from 11:30 to 12:30 on Sunday mornings downstairs in the dining room.  Leaders vary from week to week depending on the topic.  Newcomers are always welcome.

Book Discussion Group
A discussion group that reads a book and talks about it together.  Recently, the group read "God's Politics" by Jim Wallis; beginning in March 2009, the group will be reading "The Shack" by William P. Young.  The group meets on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 downstairs in the conference room, and is led by Chris McElhone and Jamie Robinson.  Newcomers are always welcome.

Coffee and Chat
An informal discussion group.  Topics vary widely from week to week.  The group meets from 11:30 to 12:30 on Sunday mornings in the memorial room (adjacent to the sanctuary), and is led by John McElhone and John Zipp.  Newcomers are always welcome.

Explorers Class
During the season of Lent, we offer this class for people who wish to learn more about the Christian faith, the Presbyterian Church (USA), and the life and ministry of this particular congregation, and/or who might be interested in joining this congregation.  The group meets from 11:30 to 12:30 on Sunday mornings downstairs in the conference room, and is led by our Pastor, Rev. Bill Pinches.  Newcomers are always welcome.

Small Group
A small group that meets twice a month in members' homes for Bible study and Christian growth.  The leader is Cheryl Gamber.  This group has currently reached a manageable capacity; we hope to begin an additional group like this one in the near future.

Women's Bible Study
An informal Bible study for women, currently exploring some of the hallmarks of the gospel according to Luke, using materials published by Horizons, the magazine for Presbyterian women.  The group meets on every third Thursday of each month from 9:00 to 10:30 am, and is led by Joan Meinke.  Newcomers are always welcome (but you have to be female!).

For more information on any of these offerings, please contact the church office.  Our Office Manager can provide you with contact information for the leaders of any of these groups.
